The State of South Africa’s Internet: some good news

Akamai has released its Q4 2010 “State of the Internet” report, providing insights into internet speeds across the globe.
Based on data gathered from the Akamai Internet Platform, the report provides insight into key global internet statistics such as the world’s fastest and slowest regions for connection speed and the highest-performing geographies for mobile connectivity.
In the fourth quarter of 2010, over 556 million unique IP addresses from 234 countries/regions connected to the Akamai Internet Platform. This represents 4.2% more IP addresses than connected in the third quarter of 2010, and over 20% more than in the same quarter a year ago.
From a global connection speed perspective, Japan recorded the highest level of “high broadband” (>5 Mbps) connectivity, with 58% of connections to Akamai at speeds above 5 Mbps.
South Korea maintained the highest average connection speed, at 13.7 Mbps. Hong Kong recorded the highest average peak connection speed, where the per-IP address maximum connection speed was averaged across the IP addresses seen from each country.
Global average broadband speeds
In the fourth quarter of 2010, the global average connection speed remained essentially flat as compared to the third quarter, ending the year approximately 60 Kbps shy of the 2 Mbps “broadband” threshold.
The global average peak connection speed grew to 8.8 Mbps, increasing nearly 10% quarter-over-quarter, and over 30% year-over-year.
The average peak connection speed metric represents an average of the maximum measured connection speeds across all of the unique IP addresses seen by Akamai from a particular geography.
In the fourth quarter of 2010, average measured connection speeds on known mobile providers around the world ranged from 4.5 Mbps down to 134 Kbps.
Average peak connection speeds on mobile providers around the world ranged from 21.2 Mbps to just barely more than 1 Mbps.

South Africa’s Internet speeds
According to Akamai, South Africa’s average connection speed is well below the 2 Mbps broadband threshold.
South Africa had an average mobile connection speed of 515Kbps and an ‘average peak’ mobile speed of 1286Kbps.
The good news is that South Africa is showing strong growth in mobile connection speeds, with the average speed up 4% quarter-to-quarter and the average peak speed increasing by 39%.
This is likely to be linked to the launch of Cell C’s 21Mbps HSPA+ network, as well as speed upgrades by Vodacom and MTN.
The following table shows the mobile broadband speed trends in 2010:

South Africa is however well below its African counterparts when it comes to mobile broadband speeds as shown in the table below.

Bandwidth in South Africa: Strangling our Economy?

It has been said that broadband internet is to the 21st century what electricity was to the 19th. And if this analogy holds ground then South Africa is still largely powered by oil lamps and candles.

The effect that the internet – and particularly broadband internet – has had on the world is astounding. It allows us to speak and share information faster than ever before. Besides making communication far simpler, the internet opens up possibilities for networking which previous forms of communication (telephones and cell phones, for example) could not.

The Effect of Bandwidth on an EconomyBroadband Internet in South Africa

In 2009, the World Bank released a report on the Information and Communications for Development project, which found that access to broadband internet boosts economic growth in all countries, but most noticeably so in developing ones. A Harvard study found that in developing countries, like South Africa, for every 10% of broadband penetration (the amount of the population with broadband internet access) their economies grew by 1.38%.

Not only does internet access effectively lower the cost of communication and expand information flow, but it also extends market boundaries. It is easy to see how an investment in the upgrading of our country’s bandwidth capabilities is not only an investment in economic growth, but also an investment in development.

Bandwidth in South Africa: Where to From Here?

Telkom, the company with the monopoly of South Africa’s phone lines, has thus far failed dismally to provide the country with acceptable internet bandwidth, and charges exorbitant amounts for what little it does provide. Their CEO, Nombulelo Moholi, has herself stated in a recent interview that Telkom needs a ‘culture change’, and that the company is not operating as it should.

The plans that have been put in place to increase internet bandwidth are multiple. Various underground and sub-marine cables have been laid that promise to offer speeds that are comparable to world standards.

However, this does not change the fact that the cost will remain in a similar bracket, unavailable to the rural and disadvantaged sector of the population, and our broadband internet penetration rate will remain near to where it is now – a tiny 2%. However, 60% of Africa’s internet usage still comes from South Africa, which has an overall internet penetration rate of around 11%.

Mobile phones are now also a means whereby one can connect to the internet at speeds that can challenge even fixed-line broadband internet speeds. Now that mobile phones can connect, we may see a sharp rise in people connecting through them, and a dip in traditional broadband usage via desktop and laptop computers.

One thing is for sure: a growth in broadband access in South Africa will strengthen our economy, and as long as it stays so unattainable for so many people, our economy will continue to be strangled.

SEM (Search Engine Marketing)

Definition:
The search wheel
The search wheel
A form of internet marketing that seeks to promote websites by increasing their visibility in search engine result pages (SERPs).  SEM methods include: search engine optimization (SEO), paid placement (contextual advertising, digital asset optimization, and paid inclusion).
Hence resulting in two types of listing:
Components of Search Engine Marketing
Components of Search Engine Marketing
Editorial / Organic / Natural Listings: Any good search engine, such as Google or Bing, has “editorial” or “organic or “natural” listings. these are listings that appear without anyone paying for them. they are provided as a core product of that search engine, in the same way that a newspaper has a core product of writing stories about topics it believes are of interest to its readers, rather than to its advertisers.
Paid Search / CPC / PPC Listings: Search engines also have paid search ads, sometimes referred to as “CPC” or “PPC” listings. Those acronyms come from the way advertisers are charged for these ads, on a Cost-Per-Click or Pay-Per-Click basis. You pay, you get listed. When you stop paying, your listings goes away. Similar to newspapers, these ads typically appear alongside – but – separate from the editorial content. They are also not supposed to influence the editorial coverage.
SEM thus involves use of marketing principles, only in a way that the strategizing is around reaching out to your consumer via search listings.
When this term is used to describe an individual, it stands for “Search Engine Marketer” or one who performs SEM.
SEM is said to allow for more targeted marketing because it involves the marketer reaching out to the seeking consumer. It is thus a two way process, in which the consumer seeks out his / her need, and the marketer, through SEM, is ready to provide the need of this consumer.

Discover the world of magic with the new iPhone 4S!

The date of the iPhone 4s release has been announced.
Not so long ago at the conference held by Apple it became clear that the company will present the new device in August or September, 2011. No one mentioned what kind of device that would be, but it was obvious for all that they were speaking about the new iPhone 4S. Such claims were very serious as Apple would never mislead its fans.
What changes will we see in the new iPhone 4S ?
Changes in the iPhone 4S will affect primarily the CPU. It is assumed that it will be a new heavy-duty processor A5. Such a powerful processor can perform a huge number of operations per second, in other words, the speed of the device will be really fantastic. The screen of iPhone will become even larger, about 4 inches, what will certainly pleasantly surprise the lucky owners of the iiPhone 4S. The camera will become even better, no less than 8 megapixels. Photos made by such camera will be of high quality. The video also will be more sharp and clear, what definitely will not leave indifferent all the keen photographers and cameramen.
Where is it possible to buy the iPhone 4S?
iPhone 4s release date - September 15th, 2011.
You will be able to buy the iPhone 4S at the very first day of the product’s sale. We don’t know when this day will be, but analytics suggest that it will be September 15th, 2011. Of course, we all know that when the sales of the new iPhone start, there will be thousands of customers in the queues, eager to purchase the product. It is understandable.
There are a lot of people dreaming to be the first to buy the iPhone 4S, wanted by so many, and to show off to their friends, colleagues and relatives. The sales will start in the USA, and then come to Europe. In Russia the product will become officially available only in 3-5 months after the start of this wave in the USA. However, the fans who are eager to buy Apple will not like the idea of waiting for the official sales and more likely will order the device through the resellers in the United States. Of course, they probably will not be able to buy the iPhone 4S for the market-price, but customers are not scared of this. They are ready to pay hundreds of dollars to become the first winners of the iPhone 4S in Russia.

refinancing with bad credit

This is because these days, lenders are very clued in to borrowers credit scores and credit history. All your credit information is stored in a giant database somewhere and if your credit is bad for some reason, it's going to show up on a mortgage refinancing report. And banks probably don't mind seeing a few defaults and bad credit accounts here and there. More fees for them! Your bank might like to see one of their client's earmarked as 'bad credit'…they can raise your interest rate and you can't do anything about it.
These days, having bad credit isn't necessarily as bad as it should be. This is because banks are business entities too. Banks borrow money just like people do. In times of relatively low interest rates, banks need to make money by originating loans. And, a lot of new 'subprime' lenders have opened up shop in recent years and are specifically in the business of lending to people with bad credit. They are looking to refinance bad credit accounts like yours and collect massive fees on the backend.
Many people with bad credit history look to take out loans from friends and family. While this may be a fairly good short term solution, it might not be the smartest of long term business moves. What you need to do is refinance your mortgage and lower your payment. The best thing you can do for yourself is to shop around. I'd be willing to bet that some banks will give you a better deal on a mortgage refinancing than you think they would. Find out who's got the best rate to get the best deal on your loan. This might take a little legwork, but it could pay off. Finding that right bank to give you the right deal on your refinancing will be worth the effort.
Mortgage can last a lifetime and that extra 1% can add up to literally thousands of dollars over the years. I have friends that are in their 70s and still paying off their home loans. It'll pay off in the long run to make sure you find the best deal possible. Don't let bad credit stop you from refinancing your home.

benchmark lending

benchmark lending ? what is that ?

do you know if that is the benchmark lending it?
Benchmark is the term by which we mean a set of standards used to evaluate the level of quality or performance. This cab is pulled from the company's own experience or from experiences of other companies. While the interest of reference we refer to the interest rate that banks must pay when they borrow money. Now you would think that banks are not also borrow money from others in the form of the loan? The answer would be yes, banks also borrowed money. Banks must keep some money in reserve. But sometimes it happens that they do not borrow money for short periods of time, say one night, then they have no reserves left, for this they had to borrow money at a certain interest rate. For this reason, banks and mortgage companies try to find people who need a loan and then give them credit, so that banks could obtain money from the loans granted to customers by taking interest. This can be valuable business for the bankers and mortgage companies that provide credit, if there are many customers in the market.

We've been told that Best Buy will be matching this promotion with a $100 Best Buy gift card for the same qualifying customers. mortgage rates refinancing

Selecting the Best Mortgage Rate

Finding the best mortgage rate may not be as easy as simply identifying the lowest interest rate (30 year mortgage rates) available.   The criteria a mortgage shopper should apply must begin with the question of how long they plan to hold onto the mortgage and retain ownership of the property.  There is no reason to consider the option of paying points and fees to buy down the interest rate when a borrower does not plan to own the property long enough to re-coup (or at least break even) on the closing costs.  The second criteria that should be used in determining whether to buy the interest rate down by paying point and fees, is whether a borrower is refinancing (refinance mortgage rates) or purchasing the property in question.  When refinancing, points and fees have a different tax treatment than if the transaction involves a purchase.  Deducting points and fees typically has a more favorable tax treatment in a purchase transaction rather than in refinancing when the deduction of points is normally amortized over the life of the loan and not deducted in the year they are paid as is typically the case in a purchase.
Another criteria frequently used to determine the best mortgage rate is APR or the Annual Percentage Rate.  The purpose of the APR is to give the mortgage consumer a basis of comparing several loans by examining the total cost of the loan, including some specific costs, over a period of time by reflecting some of those costs in the interest rate (30 year mortgage rates).  The problem with the APR is that it is not required to be calculated the same way across the board, for instance one area were lenders can differ dramatically when it comes to quoting APR, is the number of days of pro-rated interest they use when arriving at their APR calculation.  Pro-rated interest is the number of days remaining within a month that you will pay interest after your new loan closes, for example if your loan should close on the 15th of the month then you would have 15 days (or 16 if the month has 31 days) interest remaining to pay on the new loan.  The problem with lenders including the pro-rated interest in the APR is that there is no uniform requirement for how it is quoted.  Some lenders use 15 days in their calculation and some may use 30 days, a few may even use zero days of pro-rated interest in their APR calculation so it will appear (somewhat deceptively) to be the lowest among their competitors.

What type of loan would be best mortgage for you? With so many sub-prime borrowers having been burned recently by adjustable rate mortgages, ARMs are being avoided like the plague in this new post-mortgage meltdown era. It’s unfortunate that all adjustable loans are being written off by many consumers and are now being presented in the same negative light. In fact, given the right circumstances, an adjustable loan can be a wonderful tool for managing one’s personal cash flow if a borrower is both responsible and educated in maintaining their own finances. Risk tolerance, along with personal confidence and skill, in controlling one’s finances is critical in determining whether an ARM might be right for a particular borrower. ARMs can also be useful for borrowers who have a short term ownership horizon, perhaps of less than 3-5 years. Of course given the soft real estate market currently experienced throughout the country, buying a home with such a short term time horizon would likely be a foolish strategy. Fixed rate mortgages (30 year mortgage rates) are always a safe bet and in many cases borrowers are better off taking a 30 year term versus the shorter 15 year term. Borrowers opting for the 30 year can always make additional payments to shorten the term of the loan (assuming they take a recommended no prepayment penalty loan), this way they remain in control of managing their mortgage payment and cash flow. A 15 year mortgage can be a terrific, less costly option for the more mature borrower who does not have as many competing demands for their cash (i.e. saving for retirement, kid’s college education, etc.).
As you have now seen, determining what the best mortgage rate for you may be is not as simple as it sounds. There are many considerations to take into account and the key to making accurate loan comparisons is to be certain you are truly comparing loans on an apples-to-apples basis and not looking at two loans that have completely different rate and yield equivalencies.

Mesothelioma Symptoms

Malignant Mesothelioma is a rare and serious form of asbestos cancer in which the cells of the mesothelium become cancerous and multiply out of control. The mesothelium is a protective, two-layered membrane that covers the internal organs of the body. Between these layers, cells produce fluid that allows organs to be lubricated and to slide easily against other organs and surrounding tissues. Mesothelioma is usually found in the layer that covers the lungs, called the pleura, but it can also be seen in the peritoneum, which lines the abdominal cavity, or the percardium, which lines the heart.

Mesothelioma is almost always caused by asbestos exposure, but symptoms may not appear for as long as 50 years after the exposure. Some people may not have any symptoms, and most people with the disease exhibit symptoms for only two to three months before they are diagnosed with mesothelioma. About a quarter of mesothelioma patients show symptoms for at least six months before they are diagnosed. Symptoms of mesothelioma in its early stages can resemble those of less serious conditions such as viral pneumonia or even just increasing age, so many people ignore them or mistake them for common, minor ailments. Since early detection gives doctors more treatment options and allows them to choose more effective and more powerful therapies, people who have been exposed to asbestos, even for a brief time, are encouraged to tell their doctors about the asbestos exposure and to have regular check-ups to detect lung and abdomen abnormalities, even if they don't exhibit any symptoms of mesothelioma.

Pleural Mesothelioma Symptoms

Pleural Mesothelioma In pleural mesothelioma, almost all patients experience shortness of breath (also known as dyspnea) and/or pain. This pain ranges from mild to stabbing and can be in the chest, abdomen, shoulder, arm or lower back.

Most patients will have pleural effusions (fluid buildups in the pleura) that can cause shortness of breath and chest pains, though many cause no symptoms and are discovered only after a physical examination or chest x-ray. The right lung, which is slightly larger than the left, is affected 60 percent of the time; about 5 percent of patients show cancer in both lungs at the time of diagnosis. When listening to a patient's chest with a stethoscope, a doctor will find that normal breath sounds are muted and that tapping on the chest reveals dull rather than hollow sounds.

Some patients experience trouble swallowing, coughing, fever, night sweats, fatigue, and weight loss. Other symptoms include hoarseness, coughing up blood, swelling of the face and arms, muscle weakness, and sensory loss. When fluid builds up in the pleura, breathing can be even more difficult while lying down, making it hard for patients to sleep.

If symptoms suggest mesothelioma, doctors will generally order a number of tests. Imaging studies like X-rays, CT scans and MRI can show any abnormalities within the lungs. A bronchoscopy, in which a viewing scope is used to look inside the lungs, may also be ordered. A complete blood count and levels of specific proteins can help make the diagnosis. However, the diagnosis of mesothelioma cannot be made by blood work and imaging studies in every case. Other more common diseases such as benign asbestos-related pleural disease and metastatic adenocarcinoma can have very similar appearances on imaging studies. Biopsies and the use of special staining are often necessary for the accurate diagnosis of pleural mesothelioma.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma Symptoms

Peritoneal Mesothelioma Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include abdominal pain, weight loss, and swelling due to a fluid buildup or tumor growth in the abdomen. Other symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may include bowel obstruction with blockage in the large or small intestine, abdominal mass, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, breathing difficulties, swelling of the feet and fever.

If the cancer affects the liver, which plays a big role in producing the chemicals needed to control bleeding, patients may experience blood clotting abnormalities and anemia (a reduction in the number of red blood cells, which makes it harder for the heart and lungs to get oxygen to the parts of the body that need it). If the cancer has spread beyond the mesothelium to other parts of the body, symptoms may include pain, trouble swallowing, or swelling of the neck or face.

With peritoneal mesothelioma, some people experience non-specific symptoms for months prior to a confirmed diagnosis. In some cases, the mesothelioma is found when the patient has sought medical treatment for another problem such as gallbladder, hernia or pelvic mass.

Pericardial Mesothelioma Symptoms

Pericardial Mesothelioma While often very similar to the symptoms seen with pleural mesothelioma, the symptoms of pericardial mesothelioma are not actually a direct consequence of the disease itself, but are a by-product of the ever expanding cancerous tumor. These symptoms are caused by the accumulation of fluid around the heart, and can include shortness of breath, chest pain, extreme fatigue after light exertion or activity, low blood pressure, fainting, heart palpitations, fluid retention (often in the legs), and heart palpitations.

As the pericardial mesothelioma grows in the lining of the heart, it causes an expansion of the surrounding tissue, leading to a buildup of excess fluid that puts pressure on the heart and surrounding organs, like the lungs.

While it is best to recognize and note these symptoms early in the progression of pericardial mesothelioma, most of these symptoms do not occur until the disease has progressed quite far.

AT&T Wireless Hits Back Against Data Capping Complaints

If you recall, a few days ago our own Adam Johnson posted about AT&T Wireless capping upload speeds for non-iPhone devices — most notably the Motorola Atrix 4G — at a maximum speed of 300 kbps, well below the capabilities of the device. This has caused quite a stir among AT&T customers who feel they’re showing favoritism to their now-not-exclusive-anymore iPhone, leading to one customer filing a complaint with the BBB.
Well, AT&T Wireless has responded to these allegations…

According to a story on Intomobile, an AT&T Wireless spokesperson has released the following statement:
AT&T Mobility (AT&T) received the above-referenced customer complaint and appreciates the opportunity to respond. Specifically, Keith Geissler complains that the recently released Motorola Atrix does not offer speeds anywhere near what advertised speeds claim. He is requesting activation of 4G services and removal of the cap on the Motorola Atrix services.
Account research regarding this complaint shows that AT&T is focused on delivering a wide choice of solutions and the best possible Smartphone experience to our customers. Be assured that AT&T has not “capped” the upload speeds on the ATRIX. The ATRIX is a HSUPA-capable device, and we currently are performing the testing and preparations necessary to ensure that, when we turn this feature on, you will continue to have a world class experience.
We ask that you please keep in mind; software is only one of many factors that can affect speeds experienced. Factors such as location, time of day, network capacity and facilities, can have an impact as well. Again, in order to ensure the best possible customer experience services will become available once testing has been completed.
Aaahhhh, so according to the folks at AT&T Wireless, the HSUPA modem in the device capable of uploading speeds well in excess of the iPhone…just hasn’t been turned on yet. Well, it’s certainly a good thing they’re telling their customers that NOW, rather than…oh…BEFORE they bought the phone. Hopefully AT&T will release said update to turn on this feature in the future, and we’ll follow this story for the latest developments.

Domain Registration Yahoo

This blog is to help you decide whether or not to use Domain Registration Yahoo for your own web domain name registration and whether or not you should also host your website using Yahoo's Web Hosting features.
Choosing Your Domain Name - Very Important - Must Read !

Speaking as an experienced webmaster and also from other internet marketing sources, your domain name is critical on your online success. The domain name (e.g. www.DomainName.com) is very important for search engine to find and index your web page. The name you choose must reflect the products or services you are trying to promote. Thank you for visiting my blog and I wish you all the success in your goal of Internet Business and I hope you'll have all the success you have ever dreamed of.
P.S. Please read more comments from other users / webmasters
Firstly, I'll discuss my personal experience with Yahoo Domains Name Registration. At the bottom of this blog you'll find more information and other webmasters' experience in dealing and using Yahoo! Domains.I started my first Internet Business about 8 years ago after attending a couple of Internet Business seminars. Back then I had a lot of good ideas, but lack the technical knowledge about setting up a website and what software to use. Remember back then blogs were rare or non-existent and Wordpress and Joomla content management softwares were in their infancy stage and were very difficult to use for a non-techie newbie guy like me.

Since I was using Yahoo as my email provider, it was very easy to simply use Yahoo! Domains: Secure Domain Name Registration and Yahoo Web Hosting as my initial foray into my first ever Internet Business.
I have been using Yahoo Domains (through Yahoo Small Business) for several years now, and I have to say that I am very satisfied with my experience with Yahoo Domains. At the time that I chose my domain, there were only a few reputable registrars on the market, and I have seen many either spring up or become more popular since then (such as GoDaddy, for example).
One thing that is great about choosing Yahoo to register a domain is that they have been in business for over a decade with their search engine and other great products to service not only average consumers, but also small businesses and big businesses alike. Because they have a reputation for quality, it's easy to trust them as a domain registrar.
The thing I really like about Yahoo personally is that you can register your domain and maintain other aspects of your site's setup easily and effectively. To make things more enticing, Yahoo provides excellent 24/7 customer service and support, so you are never left in a lurch should you encounter any questions or problems.
Now fast forward 8 years, there are many more popular domains registrars out there, many offering different kinds of services and features. Choosing the right registrar depends on your website's requirements and budget. Although price is not that much different for single purchases, it does become a factor when you need to buy a number of domain names. However, if you require a domain name for your small business, then going for the leading domain name providers such as Yahoo or GoDaddy would be advisable.

Who you choose as your domain registrar really depends on your requirements. But you must always consider the reputation and trustworthiness of a particular registrar before purchasing their service. Domain name registration starts as low as $1.99, and can be up to $14.99 per year, depending on the choice of registrar.

You can easily do a web search to easily find domain registrar reviews that compare domain names and different providers in terms of features, popularity, and price. These reviews are very helpful in making a decision about your future domains.

Without getting too technical, your domain name and your website can hosted by different providers. So what you can do is register for a domain name (your website's name i.e. www.YourDomainName.com) and make sure the domain name is pointed to your website host or nameservers, usually they start with NS1.yourwebsitehost.com, NS2.yourwebsitehost.com and NS3.yourwebsitehost.com. Other important thing is to lock your Domain Name so no one can transfer the name without your authority.

How Laser Hair Removal Machines Work hair laser removal virginia

Laser hair removal has become so popular that it is now the world’s second most frequently performed cosmetic procedure, and has become a bread-and-butter business for many dermatologists, cosmetic surgeons, and laser hair removal system manufacturers since the first such system received FDA approval in 1995.

Laser hair removal destroys the hair-growing capacity of hair follicles by targeting them with pulses of extremely high intensity light. Because of the increasing demand for laser hair removal procedures, more and more laser hair removal machines are being developed for the market, but no laser hair removal machine may be sold without first receivng the FDA's stamp of approval.
The First Laser Hair Removal Machine

The original laser hair removal machine, the Thermolase Corporation’s Soft Light Hair Removal System, received FDA approval in 1995, but soon proved ineffective because it had been put on the market without being thoroughly tested. It was advertised as providing permanent painless hair removal, but eventually became the subject of a class action suit because of the inaccuracy of its claims. The suit was settled out of court, but Thermolase no longer manufactures laser hair removal machines.

Next Generation Laser Hair Removal Machines
One current laser hair removal machine, which operates by aiming a long pulse of laser light into the subdermal skin which holds the hair follicles, is the Alexandrite laser. The heat from the laser damages the hair follicles which are in the active hair growth phase, so that the hairs stop developing.

Diode lasers are laser hair removal machines constructed of miniature diodes or semi-conductors arranged to produce light. The construction of the diode laser means that it can create a longer wavelength of laser light energy, which is very effective in treating dark-complected people for hair removal.

Some dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons favor the Q-Switched Nd: YAG laser, because it can produce two lightwaves of varying lengths. For strong penetration, to affect the deep hair follicles, it uses infrared light; for the follicles nearer to the skin’s surface, it uses green light. It delivers either wavelength of light in rapid pulses.

The LuxuryPro laser hair removal machine is inexpensive, safe, and versatile. Ruby lasers utilize a short pulse red light to target the dark pigment in hair follicles.

The most important factor in a successful laser hair removal treatment is the skill of the person administering it, and the variety of machines he or she has available to tailor the treatment to the specific needs of the client.

What's new in synthetic oil technology

Before we can tackle what's new in synthetic motor oil technology, we should first make sure that we know what synthetic oils are. Mineral or conventional motor oils come from the ground, like the stuff that bubbles up in oil fields from Texas to Saudi Arabia. On the other hand, synthetic oils are man-made. Each company has a proprietary process for creating these oils that they're not keen to disclose.
If there were two puddles of clean engine oil on the floor, one puddle of mineral oil and one puddle of synthetic, it would be almost impossible to tell them apart. As ExxonMobil technical advisor Kevin Chinn quipped during a phone interview, "You'd slip on both of them." If two vehicles at 10,000 miles (16,093 kilometers) past their last oil change were drained, though, the differences between the vehicle using mineral motor oil and the one using synthetic oil would be apparent: The mineral oil would be noticeably thicker.

Synthetic oils have been around for a while; Amoco sold one as early as 1929. During World War II, the Germans advanced synthetic oil technology when Allied forces strangled the country's oil supply. In the 1950s and 1960s, synthetic oil took off to meet the high-performance needs of fighter jets. Then, just as the fuel crisis of the 1970s took hold, Mobil1 synthetic oils that promised to increase fuel economy hit the passenger car market.
Despite the boost provided by the last fuel crisis, it took some time for synthetic motor oils to gain traction in the automotive market. The turning point came when auto manufacturers started to understand the benefits of synthetics -- such as fewer emissions and longer stretches between oil changes -- and recommended their use in newly built cars.
Next we'll look at how synthetics differ from mineral oils, and learn the meaning behind some of the terms used by motor oil manufacturers.
